Electrostatic sorter for comminuted particles of differing types, esp. plastics

A sorter separating mixed particles of highly similar plastics into individual portions, comprises a unit charging particles to either polarity, with a device to separate them in an electrostatic field. The sorter has an arrangement of oppositely charged electrodes, and collectors for individual plastics led on different paths by the field. In the novel sorter (4) charged particles are applied to a dielectric roller rotating on a horizontal axis (WA). Electrodes (42) of one polarity are located within the roller, near to and over a set angle of its inner circumference, starting where particles are supplied. Electrodes (48) of opposite polarity are spaced away from and around the outside of the roller, enclosing a downward facing outlet (50).
