An information indicating device having an LED and a light transmitting structure is disposed within a line of sight of a vehicle operator. A distance sensor measures a distance between a vehicle body and an object near it. A circuit controls the LED based on an output of the distance sensor. An indicating portion is disposed on an end of a corner pole or on a fender marker or on a door or auxiliary mirror 120 or on a high level rear brake light to receive light from the LED and transmit light to the vehicle operator without requiring the vehicle operator to substantially look away from the direction the vehicle is travelling or away from a mirror showing the driver the vehicle's travelling direction. The distance measured may be to nearby obstructions or it may be used to detect a hollow 102b adjacent the vehicle. Different colours of LEDs may be activated selectively.
