The automobile auxiliary heater (2) is supplied with combustion air via an air intake (3) containing a temp. sensor (7,7A) coupled to a control device (4) for the heater and for an associated fan (5,6), directing air into the passenger space. The control device allows the heater to be cut out when a first temp. threshold is reached and switches in the fan for ventilating the passenger space when a second higher temp. threshold is reached.
