1,135,100. Jet propelled aircraft. BRITISH AIRCRAFT CORP. (OPERATING) Ltd. 25 July, 1967 [27 July, 1966], No. 33812/66. Headings B7G and B7W. A jet-propelled aircraft has a fuselage 10 and a gas-turbine propulsion engine 11 (e.g. a turbojet or a by-pass engine with reheat in the jet pipe and possibly in the by-pass duct) disposed in the tail end of the fuselage, the engine comprising an outer shell of substantially circular cross-section, its longitudinal axis being aligned with that of the fuselage. The outer shell forms a structural element of the fuselage 10, supporting the engine, the outer surface of the shell forming an aerodynamic continuation of the " wetted " area of the fuselage. The outer shell may have a flange which is mounted on a bulkhead 25 of the fuselage, through which air flows from an intake duct 26. A tunnel 22, carrying fuel lines and engine controls 23 may pass through the intake duct 26 to the engine 11 from a compartment housing engine auxiliaries 12. The centre part of the fuselage 10 may comprise a fuel tank 17 through which passes a tunnel 24 housing an air supply for pressurizing the cockpit 20, and the engine operating controls. |
