The device has a plate element (3) and a retaining element (4,5,6,7) connected thereto and fixable on the brickwork (1) of the building. The plate element can be held sealingly against the brickwork by suitable means (11). The connecting area between retaining element and plate element has a sealing strip (17) which seals the plate either side with the connecting area of the retaining element. The sealing strip can be connected in keyed engagement with the retaining element. The strip and retaining element can fit together with a dovetailed guide.
