1,179,996. Vinyl chloride copolymers. WACKER-CHEMIE G.m.b.H. 27 Nov., 1968 [5 Dec., 1967], No. 56275/68. Heading C3P. Copolymers are prepared from vinyl chloride and fumaric acid esters wherein a proportion of the ester groups are derived from a monohydric alcohol containing at least one aliphatic multiple bond and at least 11 carbon atoms. The ester groups may be derived from such alcohols as undecenol, dodecenol, tetradecenol, palmitoleyl alcohol, oleyl alcohol, eicosenol, erucyl alcohol, carnaubenol, hexacosenol, or phytol. The remaining ester groups may be derived from saturated monohydric alcohols. In the examples, vinyl chloride and a fumaric acid ester of a mixture of oleyl, cetyl and myristyl alcohol and optionally saturated tallow fat alcohol are copolymerized in an aqueous suspension in the presence of polyvinyl alcohol, the sodium salt of a sec-alkane sulphonate, calcium chloride, dilauroyl peroxide, and diisopropyl peroxydicarbonate. The copolymer may be mixed with a wax and dibutyl tin mercaptide and formed into films.
