The device is based on an oil-filled elastic capsule (3) recessed (2) into the sole of an open wooden shoe (1) with a tubular connection (8) to a piezoelectric pressure transducer (7) on the upper (4). The transducer is wired (9) to a control box (10) carried on a belt or in a trouser pocket. A rotary knob (11) enables the user to adjust in 10 kg steps, e.g. up to 100 kg, the threshold at which a warning signal is sounded in an earphone (13) connected by an inconspicuous wire (12). The box contains also a battery with a voltage monitoring circuit and indicator lamp.
