Prepn. of OH gp. end-capped polyether glycol, comprising: (a) subjecting an ester end-capped polyalkylene ether and an alcohol to alcoholysis, at 35 - 150 deg C and 1 - 10 atmos. in the presence of a mixed metal oxide catalyst, the mixed metal oxide including 10 - 95 wt.% alkaline earth metal oxide and 5 - 90 wt.% component selected from alumina, silica and/or zinc oxide; and (b) separating the resulting OH gp. end-capped polyether glycol from the catalyst.
