The appliance has a spectroscopic measurement unit (3) for accepting the spectrum of at least one specimen taken from the human body, derived from a light source (1) and sampling space (2). The measurement unit includes spectrometers (3a,3b) and a gas analyser (4). It is connected through a control and data processing system (6) to an intelligent adaptive neuronal network (7) provided with a mass store (8). The measurement unit consists at least of an acousto-optical spectrometer and a measurement unit for a gas analyser. It can also include a mass spectrometer, a gas chromatograph, a smell sensor or a microwave spectrometer. The mass store can be a CD-ROM store.
