A transmission mechanism (1) without crankshaft or piston rods is provided for the kinetic energy for the disc to the output shaft. Gears on the shaft at either side of the engine block drive the valves via cams. There is a peripheral groove in the disc which accommodates segments of sealing rings. The system ensures that lubricating oil is delivered by radial passages outwards from the disc centre.
