In the fuelling arrangement disclosed in copending Application 18963/69 in which the head L of a fuelling machine A may pivot through 90 degrees about a horizontal axis so that the snout P may be coupled either to the lower end of a reactor fuel channel D, Fig.. 2, or to the end of a horizontal fuel transfer tube J leading to a fuel shuffling bay H, the machine A may be moved from the fuelling vault B, through a passageway Z in the vault wall normally closed by a door M, and into a maintenance cell F, Fig. 5. The fuelling machine A comprises a carriage 10 having wheels 12 running on rails 13 in the vault B and a trolley 11 running on rails 18 on the carriage. To transfer the machine from the vault B to the cell F, wheels 15 on the carriage 10 are lowered to engage rails 16, wheels 12 are retracted, the door M is displaced horizontally and a shielding gate Y above the door is raised; also, the head L is disposed in the horizontal position and the trolley 11 disposed adjacent a post 21 mounted on one end of the carriage. The several hydraulic motors of the machine A are supplied by cables divided into three seriesconnected spans 22, 23, 30 to permit motion of the machine. Span 22 extends from the machine A to the head 21a of the post 21; span 23 extends from the post to one end of a trailer 24 mounted on rails 25 disposed parallel to the rails 16; and span 30 extends from the other end 38 of the trailer to rollers 31 in the cell F. When the machine A is positioned for movement through the passage Z a pin 28 on the machine enters the open end of a slot 27 formed in a bracket 26 attached to the trailer 24, this slot extending parallel to the rails 13, whereby when the machine enters the cell F it pushes with it the trailer. The trailer 24 comprises a cart 32 having four wheels 33 running on the rails 25 and an extension 34 pivoted to the cart about a horizontal.axis 35, this extension having two wheels 36 running on the rails. The wheels 36 engage a downwardly curved extension 29 of the rails 25 when the trailer enters the cell F thereby causing the extension 34 to pivot downwards so that the trailer 24 requires less space. The shielding gate Y is moved by a cylinder 322 and comprises a horizontal bar 320 connected by bolts 331 to a horizontal slider 330. When the machine A is in the vault B the slider 330 rests on the trailer extension 34 and when the machine is in the cell F the slider rests on the door M. |
