1,210,320. Drilling machines. GARDNERDENVER CO. 5 Dec., 1968 [13 Aug., 1968], No. 57888/68. Heading B4C. [Also in Division B3] A rotary percussive drilling machine comprises a feed mechanism for indexing a frame 56 carrying a grooved reel 52 along a feed shell 10 at a linear velocity less than that of a rock drill 20. Conduits 74, 76, 78, 80 carry fluid e.g. compressed air for percussively driving and rotating the drill steel and for flushing the bore hole and pass over the reel 52. The drill is coupled to an endless chain 40 driven by a pressure fluid operated feed motor. The feed mechanism comprises shafts 98, 110 rotatably mounted in bearing plates 68, 70 of the frame 56. The shaft 98 is integral with sprockets 104, 106, and the shaft 110 is integral with sprockets 118, 108. The sprockets 104, 118 mesh respectively with the lower and upper runs 42, 41 of the chain and the sprockets 106, 108, of which sprocket 108 is three times the diameter of sprocket 106, are operatively connected by an endless chain 112. The frame 56 is thus moved along the shell 10 by the feed mechanism at half the velocity of the drill. The machine includes a crawlertype undercarriage. The sprockets 106, 108 and chain 112 of the feed mechanism may be replaced by equivalent elements e.g. a toothed belt and cog wheels, or a friction drive comprising a belt and pulleys. |
