Chemical/morphological conversion of asbestos comprises treatment with an acid silica sol. to alter to ratio of cations to SiO2 and alter the morphology by growing polymeric silicic acid from aq. or alcoholic soln. on the asbestos or fibrous silica formed from this, so that the fibres lose their ability to penetrate to lungs.
