Selective hydrogenation C2H2 in the presence of large amounts of HCl, e.g. to prepare an HCl stream for an oxychlorination process, is achieved by reaction with at least 1 mol./mol. of H2 at 60-400 deg.C, space vol. 300-5,000 vol./vol./hr. and e.g. 20-100 p.s.i.g. in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst, pref. Pt or Pd or their oxides. |
