<p>A code division multiple access (CDMA) communication system (100) implements a service option change in a mobile station (106) by including data representing the service option to be employed in a handoff message (500) transmitted from a base station (102) to the mobile station (106). Use of the handoff message (500) as a medium to change a service option eliminates the cumbersome negotiation technique currently required to perform a service option change prior to handoff of the mobile station (106) from a first coverage area (104) to a second coverage area (110) or from a first channel to a second channel within a given coverage area (104).</p> |
