FIELD: metal working; protective coatings. SUBSTANCE: invention may find use in aircraft industry, mechanical engineering, engine building, machine tool industry, and in manufacture of other mechanisms and machines operating under especially hard conditions caused by elevated loadings, vibrations, high temperatures, presence of aggressive and corrosive media, etc. Method of applying strengthening coatings consists in that substrate surface is first activated and thus prepared surface is covered with at least one strengthening coating whereupon applied coating is treated with a focused laser beam, its diameter being in the range from 0.2 mm to half-diameter of laser beam entering the focusing device and power being at least 0.5 kW. Velocity of mutual displacement of surface being irradiated and laser beam is at least 50 mm/min. Distance from focal surface of focusing element to surface being irradiated is less than or equal to half focal length. Treatment of coating may last to its full melting through all its depth, however treatment may be confined by irradiating a part of coating surface and/or along perimeter of coating, longitudinally and/or transversely. Laser emission may also be scanning. In this case scanning frequency of laser beam is at least 40 Hz, and scanning amplitude is chosen in dependence on shape and dimensions of substrate surface with strengthening coating and is equal to at least half diameter of laser beam. Scanning path may be any flat geometric figure. EFFECT: enhanced protective capability of coatings. |
