The toilet has a closed cistern (2) with a removable cover (3) and houses a flushing mechanism (4,5). An annular collector (7) is mounted on the bottom wall of the cistern to surround the outlet opening (10), with a right-angled tube (11-13) communicating between its inner space and an air extraction conduit (15) situated outside the cistern. The upper end of the tube passes vertically through the cover of the cistern, or may alternatively pass through the side wall of the cistern above the normal filled water level. The tube may alternatively be defined by an additional inner wall, such that a space between the inner wall and the wall of the cistern communicates between the collector and the extraction conduit.
