Stereo-rigid transition metal (STM) cpds. contain, as ligands, a cyclopentadienyl (Cp) gp. and an opt. substd. hetero atom linked together via a mono- or polycyclic ring system (A) which itself forms a condensed ring system with the Cp gp.. Also claimed are (i) a catalyst contg. STM cpd(s). and a co-catalyst; and (ii) a process for the prodn. of polyolefins by polymerisation of olefins in presence of the catalyst (i).
