FIELD: production of ascorbic acid. SUBSTANCE: method is carried out by acetonation of sorbose, the process takes place in the presence of 24 % oleum as catalyst and NaA zeolite (used as dehydrating agent. Weight ratio of sorbose, oleum and acetone is 1:0.01-0.022:13-16, respectively. Reaction is carried out within 4 h at boiling point of acetone. Thus prepared solution is then cooled to minus 10-15 C and allowed to stand within 1 h, the process is followed by neutralization with the help of aqueous alkali solution to pH 8-9. Separation of desired product is carried out by commonly used way, particularly by extraction with chloroform followed by distillation of solvent or by extraction with toluene followed by its distillation.
