Process for identifying agonists of RXR receptors

The identification of RXR agonists is effected by the following process: (i) to an area of the skin of a mammal, an effective quantity is applied of at least one compound which is an active ligand for at least one steroidal/thyroidal receptor, other than a specific ligand for RXR receptors and which may hetero-dimerise with RXRs; (ii) the same mammal is given, systemically or dermally, a molecule that may have agonist activity towards RXRs; and (iii) the response on the treated part of the skin is measured and compared to the response obtained when the area is treated as in stage (i) alone.
