ADAPTIVE OPTICAL CODE READER USING OBJECT LOCATION AND MOVEMENT INFORMATION

A device and method which obtains movement and location information (100) of an optically coded item (20) located in a scan volume and uses the information to control operation of the reader (110). In one embodiment, the device includes a sensing apparatus (220) to measure the movement of an optically coded item (20) and an optical code reading apparatus (220) whose operation may be modified based on knowledge of that movement (150). Another embodiment is directed to a method which obtains data on the location and/or movement of an optically coded item (20) and then modifies the operation of the reader based on the data (120, 170).
