The mechanism has a handle (5) operating a driving mechanism (14) which operates a flat casement bolt rod (15). This is attached at one end to the driving device and is housed in a channel (4) in the metal frame (2). This groove has parallel edges (28, 29) which hold the rid in place without hampering its movement as it slides. At the other end of the rod there is a bolt (16) which fits into a locking device (25) which has a bolt clasp (27) in the second frame into which the first frame fits. The driving mechanism, the casement bolt rod and the bolt have a flat, parallelepiped shape with the width equal to the distance which separates the parallel edges of the groove. There is a base plate (30) which has a side lug (31, 32, 33) on one of its sides, which is designed to fit into the channel. The lugs (31, 33) on the driving mechanism (14) and the bolt (16) are arranged on the same side of the channel (4) while the lug (32) on the casement bolt rod (15) is on the opposite side.
