[Also in Division F2] A conveyer roller, as shown in the upper half of Fig. 1, comprises an end member 7 in which are inserted a ball bearing outer race 22 and a closure cap 14. A sleeve 10, 11 fits on a stationary axle 6 and, with the cap 14, forms a labyrinth seal for the bearing. The inner race 20 of the bearing is carried by the sleeve portion 10 and the cap 14 is secured by teeth 16 which engage in teeth or an annular groove in the end member 7. In the lower half of Fig. 1, the inner ball race comprises a portion 30 of a sleeve which has seal portions 31, 32. The outer race forms part of the roller end member 29. The sleeves 10, 30, the race members 20, 22 and the roller end members 7, 29 are of synthetic material. A pin 42 is normally urged by a spring 45 outwardly of the axle but in assembling the roller between two lateral frame members the pin may be urged inwardly of the axle. In the top half of Fig. 2, a ring 56 is inserted in a sleeve 58 of thermoplastic material and is secured by applying heat to the end thereof. The axle 52 is located in the roller by a spring 67, but may be moved to the left against the spring action to facilitate mounting of the roller. In the lower part of Fig. 2, a bush 69 has a lug 79 which snaps into a groove 77 in the axle. By exerting sufficient end pressure, the axle may be disengaged from the lug 79 for mounting the roller in a frame. |
