A seal for a valve of an internal combustion engine comprises a sealing element (28) of elastomeric material fixed to a metal reinforcing body (36) and a support element (20) having a bearing portion (18) on which an end of a spring (14) under compression acts in use, urging the valve towards a closed position. The metal reinforcing body (36) is connected to the support element (20) in a floating manner so that it can perform pivoting movements of limited amplitude about a generic axis perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the seal (22). <IMAGE>
