<p>A device based on an optical monitoring assembly (5) for performing braiding, taping or any other process whereby wire bands, tapes or the like (2) may be wound around a cable or main support (1) with real-time monitoring of a number of parameters, i.e. the winding angle (7) as defined by the pitch (6) of the observed element(s) (2) (wire bands, tapes or the like); the vibration of the observed element(s) (2), whereby the tensions of said observed element(s) may be corrected automatically; the consistency of the quality of the material(s) of the element(s) (2) being wound, as determined by analysing the reflected power of a light beam (8); and the continuous presence of all the elements (2) being wound, whereby the apparatus may be stopped should one of them break. Such real-time monitoring enables a controlled and guaranteed product quality level to be achieved.</p> |
