A method of making a joint in a fishing or other rod comprises wrapping a reinforcement member 18 of fibreglass cloth impregnated with uncured resin around a tubular fibreglass blank impregnated with uncured resin for at least two turns, curing the blank and reinforcement member at the same time to form an integral unit, cutting, at 24, the blank and reinforcement member in two to form two separate sections 12, 14 end to end, and inserting a solid plug 26 of fibreglass material into one of the sections while leaving a portion 28 of the plug extending beyond the end of the one section, whereby the other of the sections can be fitted over the exposed portion of the plug. As shown, the plug, together with the rod, is tapered and has rounded ends 32, 34, the reinforcing member being of triangular or truncated triangular configuration before wrapping. |
