SMALL-SIZED UNIFORM BEAM EXPANDER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To insert and use a color wheel for obtaining various color light outputs without forming a zero spot and without reducing the width of the output beam pattern. SOLUTION: This beam expanding device used together with a centralized lighting system 10 and adaptable for the emergency automobile illumination obtains an essentially continuous beam pattern light output over the output range of±45 deg. from the center point. The beam pattern light output has a preferable height. The beam expanding device 12 has a curved surface mixing the light propagated in it and can obtain the continuous light output. The side wall face of the beam expanding device 12 has the total reflection characteristic. A color wheel 18 can be inserted between the output of an optical fiber 16 transmitting light from a centralized light source 14 to a required remote position and the beam expanding device 12 in one implementation configuration. The color wheel 18 can generate various color light outputs from a single light source.
