PURPOSE: To efficiently mass-produce the subject detergent through spray drying process so as to suppress hydrolysis of theα-sulfofatty acid alkyl ester salt, improve its thermal stability, thus enabling its drying at high temperatures. CONSTITUTION: In producing this detergent by spray drying of an aqueous slurry containing anα-sulfofatty acid alkyl ester salt, the pH value of the slurry is adjusted with an alkali builder such as an alkali metal carbonate, metaborate or silicate so as to come to 8-11.5.
