Distyryl dispersion dyes for use on hydrophobic synthetic fibres. G2A. Have the general formula: (where R denotes the same or different aromatic or heterocyclic groups, phenyl, carbonyl-, phenoxycarbonyl- or phenyl sulphonyl groups, all opt. substd; X is hydrogen, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy or acyl group; Y is halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, or acyl group). The molecule is free from sulphonic acid groups. They are made by condensing one mole of a terephthalaldehyde of formula: with two moles of a compound of formula: or a mixture of such compounds. The dyes are partic. suitable for dyeing or printing textiles from polyesters, cellulose acetate, polyamides or polyolefines. They produce yellow shades of extreme fastness under virtually all conditions. Light fastness is outstanding even in light shades, and they resist temps. up to at least 220 degrees C. They are unaffected by dye liquor consistency or dye accelerators.
