PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase printing characteristics by providing a means for selectively moving a printing head before and behind to selectively position either one of printing segments to apply printing along a printing zone. SOLUTION: Recording paper 10 is positioned in a paper advance direction P with respect to the printing head portion provided with the printing head assembly 12 attached to a carriage 16 until the recording paper 10 comes to a predetermined position. The carriage 16 is attached so as to be reciprocally moved in a high speed scanning or processing direction F with respect to the recording paper 10 so as to laterally move the printing head assembly 12 with respect to the paper advance direction P. The carriage 16 is attached to guide rails 18 in order to perform this operation to be driven by a carriage drive system 19 equipped with a timing belt 20, and a motor 21 and the reciprocal (F) operation of the carriage 16 can be also generated.
