PURPOSE: To provide a low-cost and general-purpose rectangular shield excavator by arranging multiple circular shield excavators inside outer shells rectangular in cross-section, supporting it by a mounting plate, and providing multiple fluid injection nozzles in the mounting plate. CONSTITUTION: Multiple circular shield excavators 4 are arranged inside outer shells 2 and 2 rectangular in cross-section, and the shield excavators 4 are supported by a mounting plate installed fixedly at the top end of the outer shells 2. Also multiple fluid injection holes 13, 13, 14,... are provided in the mounting plate. Then each shield excavator 4 is driven to excavate, and the natural ground which is surrounded by the shield excavator 4 and not capable of excavating is cut off by slurry injected from fluid injection nozzles 13 and 14. In addition, when the excavating is completed, each circular shield excavator 4 is removed, and can be assembled to the other rectangular shield excavator 1 or can be driven independently. Thus any desired rectangular shield excavator can be manufactured by properly selecting and combining normally used circular shield excavators 4. |
