PURPOSE: To further improve the wear resistance of a member having satisfactory wear resistance especially in hot. water or an atmosphere of steam. CONSTITUTION: This member is made of a zirconia sintered compact consisting essentially of ZrO2 and Y2 O3 in a molar ratio of 98.5:1.5 to 97.4:2.6, contg. >=60vol.% tetragonal ZrO2 and having >=5.85g/cm<3> bulk density and 0.30-0.70μm average grain diameter. When this member is put in hot water at. 60±5 deg.C and subjected to stirring with a medium stirring mill made of high strength zirconia at 8±0.5m/sec peripheral speed of a disk made of high strength zirconia, the wear rate is <=40ppm/hr in the case of pulverizing-dispersing media and <=1.5×10<-2> ppm/cm<2> .hr in the case of a member other than the media.
