PURPOSE: To enable it to realize such an active control as capable of displaying its damping action so effectively within the range of capacity restriction in corresponding a level of disturbance. CONSTITUTION: Each sensor 2 installed in a structure 1 feeds a controller 5 with a response value by the result of disturbance and damping. This controller 5 seeks a driving command voltage by way of multiplying each response value by a control gain. A damping device 3 is driven on the basis of the driving command voltage. Each control gain is expressed by multiplying a constant control gain Gi by a gain function Ai (α). A variable (α) is increased or decreased little by little so as to make a control current value Y come nearer to an allowable target value YMAX, so it becomes an index representing the strength of control. Consequently, each Ai (α) is set up so as to be the biggerα, the larger in the driving command voltage, and the smallerα, the shorter in this driving command voltage, respectively.
