PURPOSE: To obtain a cosmetic excellent in adhesivity and covering function on the skin and hair and dispersion to a product and having good feeling on use by using a basic amino acid of N-mono-long chain acyl having a specific average projected diameter. CONSTITUTION: This cosmetic is produced by using a basic amino acid of N- mono-long chain acyl having an average projected diameter of 0.01-3μm, preferably 0.1-1μm. The basic amino acid is obtained e.g. by dissolving a basic amino acid of N-long chain acyl in an alkaline solution of NaOH, etc., adding dropwise the obtained solution into a solution of hydrochloric acid, etc., to precipitate crystals (the pH is kept in the range of 2-5 during the addition and 2-6 after the addition), separating the precipitated crystals by filtration and washing them with water followed by drying. Thus obtained fine powdery basic amino acid of N-long chain acyl is preferably added into a cosmetic, e.g. in an amount of 0.1-99.1wt.% in a makeup cosmetic and 0.1-30wt.% in a body cosmetic.
