A double-acting cylinder 22 provides the horizontal movement of the bar 5 and lifting of the bar is provided by cylinders 11 acting on bell-crank assemblies 9. The damping device 29 includes a piston 33 having throttling slots 35 which, when the piston is urged into a cylinder 31 of the device, allow restricted flow of hydraulic fluid to a drain tank 41. The cushioning action of the device is adjustable by a valve 42 and the stroke of a piston 23 of the cylinder 22 is adjustable to vary the advancing step of the bar 5. Pressure between a piston-rod head 25 and the piston 33 is communicated by one of a series of devices 47 having different lengths, the device being selected according to the stroke of the piston 23. A motor 55 drives a carrier 46 which brings the devices 47 into alignment with the pistons 23 and 33. An hydraulic pump 16 energizes the apparatus. There may be only one advancing piston and cylinder, together with its damping device. Annealing furnaces are referred to. |
