A system for generating two different levels of light intensity for a vehicle uses filament lamps (1) for the higher intensity and LEDs (2) for the lower intensity. They are connected in series and there is a circuit to switch between the levels required. The circuit uses a regulator(3) to maintain the voltage at a value corresponding to one or other of the light levels. The higher voltage level is the rated voltage for the lamps, say 24 volts, and the lower level is about 50% lower than this, say 10 volts. Instead of the regulator there may be a switch to put the lamps in parallel across the supply for a high light level and in series for a low light level. |
