FIELD: medicine. SUBSTANCE: method involved assaying blood serum for concentration of myoglobin. Myoglobin concentrations 256-511 ng/ml suggest probability of development of carditis in diphtheritic cases, and carditis is diagnosed when concentrations are 512 ng/ml or higher. Myoglobin concentrations 512-1,023 ng/ml indicate slight lesion of the myocardium, and concentrations 1,024-2,047 and 2,048 ng/ml and higher are indicative of moderate and acute lesion respectively. EFFECT: higher accuracy and reliability of prediction and diagnosis. |
