The catalyst for conversion reactions comprises a matrix made up of 0-100% epsilon -transition alumina with the balance being psi -transition alumina and, (wt.%): 0.001-2 Si; 0.1-15 halogen from F, Cl, Br and I; 0.01-2 metal from the Pt family; and 0.005-10 metal promoter from Sn, Ge, In, Ga, Tl, Sb, Pb, Re, Mn, Cr, Mo and W. Also claimed is the prepn., including heating at 300-1000 deg C in an atmos. contg. water vapour.
