Process for monitoring of temperature in motor vehicle catalytic converter with Joule heating

The temperature monitoring procedure involves using iterative calculation of the temperature attained by the catalytic converter during successive increments of heat supplied to the converter. The temperature is calculated as a function of the thermal capacity of the converter and of the mass of gas reheated by the converter during a particular increment. The temperature computed is the temperature that is monitored. The temperature is computed from a linear function of the product gas mass and gas temperature. This function is weighted with a multiplier representing the influence of the engine cooling fluid on the exhaust gas. The multiplier is reduced by a factor representing the quantity of heat absorbed by the exhaust system.
