The equipment is mounted on a base (3) which supports a platform (5). The platform (5) may move vertically sliding on pillars (6), one of which is threaded and driven by a step by step motor (8) through toothed wheels (10) (11). The platform (5) and base (3) have apertures (18) (4) which allow the passage of a laser beam (1). A motor (16) mounted on the platform (5) rotates a reflective wire (17) in a succession of planes (z) perpendicular to the laser beam axis (2) and the reflected light is detected by a sensor (19). At each plane (z) the width of the laser beam may be determined allowing the focal point to be calculated.
