FIELD: production of alloys. SUBSTANCE: method provides such an improvement in preparation of caked alloys wherein, owing to varying regimes of operations and choice of carbidization medium formula, increase in plastic properties and decrease of free carbon content in tungsten carbide take place and thereby prepared powder gains in its strength and quality, and besides process on the whole is simplified and becomes less expensive. It is achieved with that, in a method including reduction of tungsten trioxide, carbidization in methane-hydrogen medium, mixing of tungsten carbide with metal binder, pressing, and caking are carried out at 1800-2500 C, and methane-hydrogen medium contains 0.2-4.5 vol % of methane and gas mixture input is 1-4 cu.m/h. Precisely, at 1800 C methane content is 0.2-1.2 vol % and mixture input 3.0-4.0 cu.m/h, and, respectively, 2000, 0.5-1.8, 2.0-3.0; 2200, 0.7-2.5, 1.5-2.5; 2500, 2.0-4.5, 1.0-1.5.
