<p>The invention relates to the safe and effective bio-treatment of circulating fluids. In one general aspect of the invention, an apparatus (5) (e.g., liver assist system) for circulating and bioprocessing a fluid (e.g., plasma) includes a conduit (6) for circulating the fluid, an oxygenator (22) for supplying oxygen to the fluid, a pump (14) adapted to circulate the fluid through the conduit (6), a bioreactor unit (8), connected within the conduit (6), adapted to process the fluid, and a container (28) connected within the conduit for receiving and releasing a portion of the fluid.</p> |
