Haloketones C 6 H 5 COR 4 wherein the benzene ring contains a bromine or chlorine atom meta to COR 4 and a C 3-8 cycloalkyl radical para to COR 4 , R 4 being C 1-5 alkyl or benzyl, are prepared by reacting a cycloalkyl-benzene with an acid halide R 4 COhal in an inert solvent in the presence of AlCl 3 or AlBr 3 to give the ketone C 6 H 5 COR 4 containing the cycloalkyl group para to COR 4 , admixing the reaction mixture, without isolating this ketone, with chlorine or bromine in the presence of an excess of AlCl 3 or AlBr 3 to form a halophenyl ketone complex and treating this complex with water or an aqueous acid. |
