1,125,827. Housing and tending livestock. ALFA-LAVAL A.B. 22 Sept., 1966 [27 Sept., 1965], No. 42300/66, Heading AIM. Individual animals or groups of animals are transported in succession by mechanical transport means between a number of separate tending stations at which the transport means stop and the tending operations are carried out while the animals remain on the transport means. As described cows are housed individually in boxes movable on rails by means of a programme-controlled driving arrangement. The cows move first to a washing station 1 where their teats and udders are washed before they move into the milking station 2. At 3 a container in the box is automatically filled with drinking water and at 4 a predetermined quantity of concentrate, corresponding to the cows milk yield, is fed into a manger in the box. Hay or other coarse fodder is supplied at 5. Manure-receiving containers in the boxes are emptied and cleaned at 6. Sleeping quarters are provided by a dark chamber 7 and the cows are taken out of the programme-controlled circulation e.g. when calving and housed in compartment 8. The invention may also be applied to other animals e.g. pigs. |
