An adjustable arm rest assembly (10) for use on a chair (11) including a support member (12), an arm rest member (50), a locking element (30) and an adjustment member (58). The support member (12) is attached to the chair (11) and extends substantially upward therefrom. The arm rest member (50) extends substantially coaxially with the support member (12). The locking element (30) is attached to one of the support member (12) and the arm rest member (50).
