Adjustable-length column for concrete shuttering

The support column (1) is used in the erection of shuttering for construction of concrete floors and ceilings in buildings. It has flat bearing surfaces at the top (9) and bottom (5) and includes a system (19) for adjusting its length in a series of steps. The upper part of the column (7) fits telescopically inside the lower portion (3) and has a series of matching through-bores (11a-z) taking a pin which is engaged by a pawl mechanism (29) with an operating lever. There are slots in the lower column giving access to two of the through-bores (11y,z). The top and bottom columns are square-section tubes. There is a circular-section threaded portion (12) at the top of the bottom column with a nut (15) for fine adjustment of the length of the column.
