The control (15) automatically limits the max. torque output of the engine via a microprocessor (120), coupled to a driver circuit for the fuel injection device for the engine. The microprocessor receives a signal representing the engine revs and provides a fuel injection signal for the driver circuit as a function of a stored torque curve when a torque limitation on/off switch (20) is in the off position and provides a fuel injection signal as a function of this curve until the max. torque value entered via the driver is reached, when the switch is in the on position.
