摘要 Two storage masses (1,2) of equal size and a much smaller mass (4) are interconnected, each storage mass having the same pressure loss in a system in which heat storage capacity of the small mass (4) amounts to at least k-times those of the two large masses (1 + 2), in which (k) is defined as purging time : operative time. The small storage mass (4) is reflux-cooled by a constant flow of clean air in an intensity which is k-times that of the main air flow. The small mass is heated up by a constant flow of hot air, in this case k-times the intensity of the main air flow. All three masses are held in a container (1) where they stand in a ring and are radially flowed. The layout includes an additional line (5) connected to the cold end of the smaller regenerator mass (4) and a connected blower (8), plus an additional burner (9) in line (3) to cover heat losses. As shown mass (1) is being blown cold as compared with mass (2) which is being heated. The smaller mass is heated up by the heated spent air which it is cooling. Heat removed from the mass (4) during the purging operation is returned into the system by the narrow orifices below the mass and consequent reduced flow rate.
