<p>A golf practice hole (42) with a variable diameter rim (43) provides a flexible material (38) positioned over a series of radially movable supports (56) that each define a portion of an edge or rim (43) of a hole (42). The flexible material (38) is typically provided with expansion areas that can include slits (168) that define separate flaps (50) of material. The flaps (50) of material are tensioned beneath the movable supports (56) to maintain the flaps (50) in engagement with the supports (56). As the supports (56) are moved radially inwardly and radially outwardly, the material (38) follows the supports (56) and defines a continuous surface above the rim (43) throughout a range of movement of the supports (56). The range of movement defines a corresponding range of hole rim diameters. The flexible surface (38) remains free of discontinuities and breaks despite diametrical changes in the rim (43) and provides an improved playing surface.</p> |
