An adaptor cable (20) and methods are provided for use with electrosurgical bipolar instruments (12), and standard commercially available electrosurgical generators (10) that reduce arcing. The adaptor cable (10) limits the peak to peak voltage developed between the electrodes of the electrosurgical instrument (12) by providing a minimum load impedance between the output terminals (14) of the electrosurgical generator (10).
